TELL US ABOUT A SUBJECT YOU ENJOY STUDYING: I honestly had a hard time choosing a subject that I liked. This year I have had many new subjects that have been to my liking. When I talk to my friends or family they are surprised because I tell them that I have economics classes. It is a subject that doesn't seem to relate to my career, but I have learned that social work needs it. It's important because nowadays it'is evident that the economy has been prioritized, leaving the social field in the background. However, I think my favourite subject has to be social psychology. Years ago, I thought about studying psychology because since I was a child I have liked to help, not only helping people but also animals hahaha (I also thought about studying veterinary medicine). In my opinion, the subject of social psychology is really amazing, because I have always felt that apart from individual problems, there is a social problem and social psychology approaches social problem...

Tell us about an expert/person in your field that you admire. Hi, I wanted to tell you that I'm in my second year of social work. This semester I wanted yo have an extra class on "Gender and Violence: What the Pandemic Evidences". It's a very dynammic and enjoyable class. I want to tell you about my teacher because I find her to ve a person and a woman to be admired. She has taught me about discrimination, racism, violence and even feminist economics. Her classes are very interactive, she uses online platforms that make the virtual modality more entertaining. She also made a playlist of music for us to listen to while we do group work or when we take a break. I think she has motivated me to do moro research on the subject, and to question the role that women have played in society. One of the topics that has caught my attention is the rituals of circumcision, which consists of subjecting boys to extreme pain, only if they can endure it do they become men. The...

BLOG POST 6: HOW CAN MY MAJOR MAKE THE WORLD BETTER Social work has the objetive of achieving collective well-being in society and transfotming it towards a better one. The profession deals with different aspects of people's lives, contributing to the improvement of the society in which we live. Social work is present in many different countries to combat inequalities in society not just here in our country but all over the world. My process as a student has been a pleasant one so far. I love that social work has a compromise with the environment, because ir's an area that I really care about. One of my favourite phrases of Martin Luther King (an activist who fought for the rights of people of African descent) which I like very much, and which I relate to my career is: "If I help just one person to have hope, I will not have lived in vain" . Because social work is a constant battle against injustice!

A photo and its Story

My dog's name is Luna. The picture is from 20 April 2017. One rainy day, when I was on my way to school I found Luna on the street, she was scared and very cold. I decided to take her to my house where my mother kept her warm and fed her, but I had to go back to school. I thought about giving her up for adoption because I already had a dog and chickens hahah my mother said she didn't want any more animals in the house because it would look like a zoo. After a week, they called me because they wanted to adopt Luna, and I was very sad because I loved her very much. My mum wanted her too so we adopted her. I'm happy to know that I was able to change an animal's life. Luna is happy. Now every 20th of April we celebrate her birthday.

A Meal or Food you really like

My favorite meal is grilled vegetables, I enjoy eating them a lot because they are super delicious and they are also super healthy!!! I usually prepare them in my electric oven, slicing them and then adding some olive oil, salt and oregano. It's super easy to prepare and it's also super tasty, my favourite vegetables to grill are corn, onion, zucchini and mushrooms, usually I accompany them with some vegetable nuggets that I also prepare in my grill. Most of the time I'm alone in my house, so I have to prepare my own food, sometimes I eat french fries or noodles, but when I'm in the mood for a healthy snack I eat this because it provides my a lot of nutrients and energy for my daily life. I took this picture last summer when my dad cooked this for me and my brother.

My favourite piece of technology

  My favourite technology is the cell phone. I like it because it’s small and easy to carry, it allows you to communicate with family and friends, plus you can download games. Tbe cell phone is suitable for all ages. I use the cell phone all the time, waking up with the alarm, surfing social networks and communicating with my friends. At night I usually play call of duty. When I go on a trip I can also download movies to watch on the road. I don’t think I ever get away from my cell phone, when I take a I listen to music from it. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so dependent on my cell phone, but it’s just wonderful. I do recommend using a cell phone, but I think we all generally have one already, everyday you see younger children that have their own cellphone because this technology has become indispensable for our generation.

  WHY DID I CHOOSE MY MAJOR?  I'm a second year social work student. I chose to study Social Work to understand the reality of the society in which I live. Since I was little I have liked animals and I considered studying veterinary medicine but I didn't like science subjects.  When I left school (in 2018) I was not clear about what to study. My only option at that time was to study differential education, but I was not completely sure about that option.  In 2019 I decided to study Social Work to fight for a more just society.  I entered to study last year and my experience at the university has been good, but a bit stressful due to the online modality. However, the subjects have been to my liking and I have made very good friends.
